Japan has a long history of drinking Kuwanoha tea. Made from the leaves of the Japanese Mulberry plant, Kuwanoha tea is native to the Shishiori area of Kesennuma in the coastal Miyagi prefecture of Japan. Similar to a fine Japanese green tea, it melds oceanic elements with a smooth, mouth-watering umami flavour.
Mulberry leaves are the only known source of a compound called DNJ (also known as 1-Deoxynojirimycin) which regulates body weight and diet-induced obesity. The freshly picked leaves are prepared by being cut into strips in the traditional tanzaku-giri (短冊きり) style for optimal brewing.
Suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
