What it is

The Pre and Post Menopause Profile is a blood test that measures LH (Luteinising Hormone), FSH (Follicle Stimulating Hormone), Oestradiol, TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) and Free T4. It is suitable for both pre and post menopause checks, to assess hormone levels at all life stages.

How it helps

Hormonal imbalance can contribute towards symptoms such as hot flushes, low libido, low mood and changes in weight.

By measuring these hormone and thyroid markers, the Pre and Post Menopause Profile helps to assess women's hormonal health, and the results can be used to design nutritional, supplemental and lifestyle interventions to help ease symptoms and support hormone balance.

It is also suitable for anyone who would like to investigate their health for overall wellbeing.

  • Results can be used to design nutritional, supplemental and lifestyle interventions

  • Free T4

Important information

This test is only available through a Healthpath Pro practitioner (Tamara at Breathe360).

How it works

Collection method: Blood (finger prick)
Turnaround time: three to five days

Need Oestradiol? You must book a venous blood draw

A finger prick test is no longer possible for this marker. A venous blood draw is essential to test oestradiol, due to a change stipulated by UKAS (the accreditation body for testing services).

If you require this marker, it is essential you book a venous blood draw with a phlebotomist, who must supply appropriate kit (SST / Gold Top venepuncture).

If you wish to test without this marker, you can still use the included finger prick kit.

Steps for finger prick testing

  • Fast for eight hours before taking the test, while staying hydrated
  • Drink five hundred millilitres of water half an hour before taking the test – before breakfast is ideal
  • Check you have all your kit (see full list in instructions)
  • Wash your hands in warm water for four minutes, then dry them
  • Follow the step by step instructions provided in the kit
  • Label the sample correctly and send it in the envelope provided via Royal Mail
  • Post the same morning after collecting your sample

Collecting your sample

If postmenopausal, the collection date can be any time.

If premenopausal, take the test between days nineteen and twenty-two of your cycle. For longer cycles, add the number of days you usually go beyond twenty-eight days. In a similar manner, subtract if your cycles are shorter.

For example, if the cycle is thirty-one days, the collection date must be between days twenty-two and twenty-five of the cycle. If the cycle is twenty-six days, the collection date must be between days seventeen and twenty.

Essential information

  • Use this guide to get a successful finger prick sample, to ensure your sample is viable for analysis.
  • To give you complete confidence in a valid sample, we recommend a blood draw. Contact your GP surgery phlebotomy services.
  • This finger prick test is recommended for those aged eighteen and over. Please book a blood draw for anyone under eighteen.
  • Read the policy on retests, replacement kits and unsuccessful samples.
