What it is

NADH (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide hydride), also known as Coenzyme 1 or bioactive vitamin B3, is the active coenzyme form of vitamin B3. This high strength 20mg capsule uses delayed release technology, so it passes through the stomach and opens in the small intestine.

How it helps

NADH is a versatile and important nutrient. It acts as a reducing agent, donating electrons to the electron transport chain for the production of ATP, the energy currency of your cells. One molecule of NADH yields three molecules of ATP, and NADH is a cofactor for more than a thousand enzymes in the body.

The more NADH a cell has available, the more energy it can produce. The heart and brain need the most energy of all our organs, and the lungs, liver and kidneys also rely on it. Although NADH is present in food, we take in only small amounts from our daily diet, as most is lost during cooking and the rest is degraded by stomach acid.

Why delayed release?

NADH is destroyed by stomach acid, so it must be taken sublingually or in a delayed release capsule that opens in the small intestine rather than the stomach. The capsules have passed a disintegration test at very high acidity and at 37°C, the normal temperature of the stomach. Please note this is delayed release, not slow release.

NADH and PQQ together

NADH and PQQ make a complementary pairing because they support mitochondrial energy in different ways. NADH helps your mitochondria produce energy, while PQQ supports the number and function of the mitochondria themselves. You can find PQQ in our shop.

NAD+ and NADH

NAD+ and NADH are two forms of the same molecule involved in cellular energy metabolism. NAD+ is the oxidised form and NADH is the reduced form, which has gained electrons. The conversion between the two is critical for cellular energy balance and many metabolic pathways.

Benefits

  • Can help support cellular energy production
  • Can help support the production of dopamine and serotonin
  • Provides energy to the brain, nerves, muscles and heart
  • A potent antioxidant
  • Areas it can help support: adrenal health, healthy ageing, energy, general health, heart health, immune health, memory, mood and sports performance
  • Higher strength than many NADH products, which are often five to ten milligrams

Ingredients

Each capsule provides 20mg NADH (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide hydride).

Bulking agent (maltodextrin), NADH, anti caking agent (magnesium stearate), delayed release vegetable capsule (HPMC)*.

*Vegetarian Society certified, Kosher certified and vegan approved.

Contains no sugar, starch, caffeine, yeast, dairy, preservatives, or artificial colours or flavours.

Important information

  • Take at any time of day, preferably on an empty stomach.
  • One capsule once or twice a day is sufficient for most people using NADH for wellbeing, energy and concentration.
  • People with more serious health challenges may use up to six capsules a day, especially in the first month.
  • Professor George Birkmayer notes that vitamin B3 (niacin or nicotinamide) may inhibit the effects of NADH, so avoid vitamin B3, B complex and multivitamins for a couple of hours either side of taking NADH.
  • If you are under medical supervision, please consult your doctor before use.
  • Consult your doctor if you are planning a pregnancy, are pregnant or are breastfeeding.
