What it is
Micromax® is a naturally fermented, live gut reconditioning probiotic supplement that helps to optimise the bacterial population profile in the gastrointestinal tract. It is biodynamically produced in Austria using organic fermentation ingredients, principally sugar cane molasses and up to forty different wild Alpine herbs, to produce effective microorganisms – up to eighty different kinds of them.
How it helps
There are up to a thousand or more different species of bacteria living in our intestinal tract that are vital for our survival and wellbeing. These friendly bacteria, which can weigh up to two kilograms and collectively contain up to three point three million genes (compared with just twenty-three thousand in the human genome), have developed a close symbiotic relationship with us over the course of evolution, making our gut flora an integral part of our biological and metabolic systems.
Friendly bacteria are known to inhibit the growth of unhealthy bacteria and other pathogens that would otherwise thrive in the warm, moist and nutrient rich environment of the intestines. Research is now showing that they have many other important functions, including:
- Breaking down undigested food, including certain carbohydrates
- Helping with the absorption of minerals (such as magnesium, calcium and iron), lipids, vitamins (such as vitamin K) and other nutrients
- Synthesising particular vitamins such as biotin and folate
- Adjusting metabolism and weight
- Regulating the functioning of the immune system and the production of antibodies and cytokines
- Modulating the nervous system, psychological wellbeing and memory
Modern diets (often low in fibre, nutrient poor or toxin rich), antibiotic use and the rise in caesarean section births have all reduced the number of friendly bacterial species inside us. Research on hunter gatherers around the world indicates that they have up to fifty per cent more bacterial species and twice as many bacterial genes as we do.
Traditional approaches have been to take probiotics that supply healthy bacteria or prebiotics that supply food for them. However, with up to a trillion microorganisms per gram of intestinal contents, adding a few billion extra per day is unlikely to make a significant impact, and prebiotics do not necessarily feed only healthy bacteria.
Professor Teruo Higa in Japan developed a specific fermentation process that produces a balance of approximately eighty different types of aerobic and anaerobic bacteria, including lactic acid bacteria, yeast, photosynthetic bacteria and other accompanying species. Professor Higa calls this combination effective microorganisms. They are designed to promote richer and healthier bacterial colonies, discourage pathogenic ones and encourage neutral bacteria to act in healthy ways, by introducing health promoting genetic information into our gut flora, taking advantage of the rapid twenty minute generational cycle of bacteria.
Micromax® is a biodynamic version of Professor Higa's effective microorganisms. The result is a probiotic action unlike conventional freeze dried varieties. The herbs used supply antioxidants, amino acids, vitamins, minerals and other nutritional components. Although Micromax contains yeast and is a fermented product, it can be part of a programme to help support a healthy yeast balance and a digestive cleanse.
As well as being taken with water, Micromax can be used externally on the skin, and internally in an enema, as a vaginal douche or as a sinus cleanse, since bacteria are found all over our bodies where they play important roles. It can even be used on surfaces to discourage the growth of harmful bacteria without damaging healthy bacteria.

Ingredients
Starter ingredients: Pure spring water, organic cane molasses (used up), aerobic and anaerobic (effective) microorganisms, a proprietary mixture of 40 different Alpine herbs*, rice bran, stone powder, maca, halite crystal salt.
*Herbs used in production include: Red clover, white clover, German Weidlgras, shepherd's purse, red fescue, yellow oat, yarrow, lady's mantle, Glathafer, meadow fescue, caraway, plantain, broad plantain, dandelion, nettle, thistle, vervain, wood cranesbill, common chickweed, fenugreek and many more.
Production notes: The molasses is used as a fuel source for the microbes during production and is not present in the final product. This means that Micromax has a very low sugar content. The other nutritive ingredients – the herbs, maca, rice bran, stone powder and halite crystal salt – are provided to allow the microbes to reach their full vitality, and so are also used up or filtered out during production.

Important information
Directions for adults
Start with half a tablespoon twice a day, twenty minutes before meals (total daily dose fifteen millilitres), in water or juice with no added sugar. If well tolerated, double to one tablespoon twice a day before meals (total daily dose thirty millilitres).
Alternatively, mix the total daily dose in a litre of water and drink throughout the day. Never add to hot water.
Directions for children
Children should take smaller amounts based on their fraction of adult body weight. Do not exceed the recommended dose.
Dogs and cats
Dogs up to twenty kilograms: five millilitres per day
Dogs twenty to forty kilograms: ten millilitres per day
Dogs over forty kilograms: fifteen millilitres per day
Add a small amount to your dog's cold water bowl to make sure they drink it, then top up with fresh water afterwards, or give by syringe into the mouth twenty minutes before feeding. For very small dogs and cats under ten kilograms, give half the suggested serving.
Horses and ponies
Ponies: thirty millilitres per day
Horses: sixty millilitres per day
Add to cold drinking water in the volume they would normally drink in a day, or add to the feed.
External use
Dilute one part Micromax to ten parts water and spray onto a clean, pre groomed coat and brush in, or onto skin and rub in. Leave to air dry.
Potential reactions
When starting Micromax, you may sometimes experience rumbling in the gut or diarrhoea. This is a detox reaction and digestion should normalise in one to three days.
Suggested combination
Take with Klamath Blue Green Algae.
Storage and quality
Refrigerate once opened and consume within six weeks. Manufactured in Austria, and all batches are laboratory tested for safety, including for Shigatoxin-Geb 1 and 2 (EHEC).
