What it is
Kakinoha Herbal Tea is a caffeine free loose leaf tea made from the wild harvested leaves of the Hiramu Mutsu variety of the Kaki persimmon tree, native to the Wakayama Prefecture of Japan. The freshly picked leaves are cut into strips in the traditional tanzaku-giri (短冊きり) style for optimal brewing.
How it helps
Kakinoha Herbal Tea is used in traditional Japanese medicine to help support a healthy inflammatory response and the immune system. Kaki leaves are high in natural antihistamines, fibre, vitamin C, amino acids and magnesium, as well as tannins, which help digestion.
Immune support
The vitamin C in kakinoha helps with the production of white blood cells, which act as a protective shield against bacterial, viral and toxic elements, supporting your immunity. The antioxidant properties also contribute towards overall health.
Weight management
Kakinoha tea is thought to help support weight management, due to the phenolic compounds and fibre in the leaves, which help the body to clear unnecessary fat.
Fluid balance
Betulinic acid, as found in kakinoha, can help support healthy fluid balance. Through its anti oedematous properties, this compound helps the body to clear excess fluid.
Seasonal pollen response
Kakinoha tea is rich in astragalin and other anti allergic flavonoids, which can help moderate histamine release and support the body's response to pollen and inflammation.
Healthy digestion
Like the fruit, the leaves are rich in fibre, which helps the digestion of food by stimulating peristaltic motion and supporting gastric and digestive juice secretion. The tannins in kakinoha also help rebalance the gut microbiota, so kakinoha tea can help support digestive comfort.
Healthy blood pressure
Flavonoids found in kakinoha can lower the activity of angiotensin converting enzyme. Bioflavonoids such as rutin, along with the potassium found in kakinoha, act as vasodilating agents that help relax and widen the arteries so that blood flow remains smooth, helping to support healthy circulation and blood pressure.
Skin tone and radiance
The antioxidant properties of kakinoha and its high levels of vitamin C also make it valuable for skin health. Vitamin C is often associated with fighting colds, yet it also supports the body's natural collagen supply, as well as bone density and general health. It also helps break down melanin, the natural pigmentation that develops in the skin from tanning or ageing, helping to support natural, glowing skin. In Japan, vitamin C is commonly taken through food, supplements, drinks, fruit and vegetables, and cosmetic products.
