What it is
The Autoimmune Viral Trio Panel from Immunosciences Lab is a blood draw test that measures the levels of antibodies to three viruses (Covid-19, Epstein Barr virus and human herpesvirus six), which may play a significant role in contributing towards inflammation and autoimmune disorders.
How it helps
High levels of antibodies may suggest autoimmune reactivity which, if not addressed, can eventually lead to the development of autoimmune disease.
Autoimmune diseases are the result of genetic and environmental factors which impact the immune system. Environmental factors include exposure to infectious pathogens (including the three listed above), which can cause autoimmunity through molecular mimicry between pathogenic viruses and human tissues.
This mimicry occurs when antibodies produced against viral antigens also attack the body's own tissues. It is thought that subsequent viral infections further aggravate the process by activating the immune response against viral and self antigens.
Benefits
- Measures antibodies to three viruses in one panel
- Recommended for those genetically predisposed to autoimmune disease
- Recommended for those with a history of exposure to environmental risk factors, such as infections from Covid-19, Epstein Barr virus and human herpesvirus six
Important information
Test markers
Epstein Barr Virus: IgG Epstein-Barr VCA, IgM Epstein-Barr VCA, IgG Early Antigen, IgG EB Nuclear Antigen, IgM EB Nuclear Antigen
Human Herpesvirus 6: IgG HHV-6, IgM HHV-6
Covid-19: IgG SARS-CoV-2
Relevant symptoms
Fatigue, joint pain, skin problems, abdominal pain, digestive problems, recurring fever, swollen glands.
How it works
Collection method: blood (venous). Turnaround time: twelve working days.
